In Sergei Rachmaninow's Études-Tableaux some of the most demanding technical Piano tasks are presented in the form of expressive character pieces.
Rachmaninow composed two cycles, eachoriginally with nine Études-Tableaux; however, shortly before Op.33 went to print, he removed three of the pieces. Several posthumous editions later reversed this decision.
In this Henle Urtext edition theexact original structure is followed, with six pieces as laid out by Rachmaninow for publication. The two surviving etudes that were not originally published are reprinted in an appendix to this edition.
