Folia

Composed by Marin Marais, La Folia is a piece for Cello and Orchestra. Arranged by Paul Bazelaire, this edition presents the scores for Cello and Piano and can be played by advanced players.

This melodious composition is based on “The folies of Spain” in terms of theme and rhythms, and the arrangement was created for the Paris Conservatoire contest. While the beginning of the piece is quite slow, it has some faster parts that are more cheerful.

Marin Marais (1656-1728) was a French composer and master of the Viol. He wrote many pieces for the Viol, some trio pieces and some orchestras.
