It was common practice in the 18th and 19th centuries to publish piano scores of works which had originally been intended for a different instrumentation. The piano arrangements were used bothfor performances in private circles and for studies. Mozart himself wrote piano arrangements of some of his works, including the overture of 'The Abduction from the Seraglio'. It is published here as a separate edition along with the concluding Capriccio from the four Praeambula KV 395 which, in terms of tonality, brilliantly completes the overture ending, as it does, with an imperfect cadence on the dominant.
