The Sinfonia in D major [BR-WFB C 8] was probably composed in the mid-1750s during Bach’s tenure as organist and Director Musices in Halle. Evidence shows that it was used as the instrumental introduction to the Whitsun cantata "Dies ist der Tag" [BR-WFB F 13 / Fk 85]. However, this is not a piece characterized by the church style, hence a separate performance in a secular context is not only possible, but was probably intended by the composer.Detalhes
