The present symphony acquired an added importance through the copy made by Mozart of the first forty-five bars of its last movement, which was acquired by the Stiftung Mozarteum Salzburg in 2010. It is quite clear that Mozart drew inspiration both from this fugato and also from that of the final movement of Haydn's Symphony in C major (P 19, 1784) in the composition of the finale of the "Jupiter"-Symphony. The present edition adheres largely to the more authentic copy from the Archabbey of St. Peter in Salzburg, because it allows the performer greater freedom, the intention being that performers should use the edition as a basis for individual interpretations informed by a highsense of responsibility towards the composer.Detalhes
