Leon Kirchner’s highly original song cycle for Soprano Voice and Piano, The Twilight Stood consists of 6 songs based on 6 poems by Emily Dickinson: The Auctioneer, He Scanned It,The Cricket Sang, Partake as Doth the Bee, Much Madness and There Came a Wind. The cycle is 13 minutes of pure Kirchner – very chromatic, linear and frequently featuring irregularrhythms – creating a truly unique, haunting atmosphere. Intended for advanced (Grade 8+) soloists, this piece is extremely challenging but rewarding at the same time.
